Guitar Center to open this week Emeryville Public Market
San Francisco Business Times by Blanca Torres, Reporter Date: Monday, January 30, 2012, 2:37pm PST Guitar Center plans to open its new location in the TMG Partners’ Emeryville Public Market on Friday. The retailer will move into a 17,000-square-foot space in a space that previously housed a Borders Books & Music. The store will include space for lessons and rehearsals — a new concept Guitar Center is trying out. Guitar Center has more than 219 stores nationwide including in San Francisco, San Jose and Concord. The Emeryville store is a relocation of the El Cerrito store, which had been open since 1996. The opening celebration kicks off this Thursday afternoon with performances by the Emery Secondary School Guitar Club, Youth Musical Theater Co., In the Moment, Oakland School for the Arts Guitar Ensemble, the Black Bones, Firehouse Art Collective and State Line Empire. Adding Guitar Center to the Public Market is part of TMG’s efforts to revamp the market, which features an international food court, a movie theater and various merchants.
